![]() ![]() ![]() The latest -
![]() I've finished my work as Agatha in the thriller feature "Malevolence: Bereavement," due for a 5/09 release in theaters.
I'm also in all 5 episodes of a Drexel thesis TV series, "University 101," in the role of Nancy, working with Felicia M Behr, ABC TV Vice President of casting. That wrapped in September and initial release will be on DUTV soon. In June, I was in Temple student Jen Schneider's short film, "Crossroads," in the great role of Suze Salazar - loved it! Tuesday I auditioned for a pharmaceutical national commercial at House Casting in NY. Thursday I was the voice over talent for the production of a corporate instructional on technical operation of their computer-controlled printing equipment. I just auditioned for a role in "Law Abiding Citizen," starring Gerard Butler, Jamie Foxx and Catherine Zeta Jones, to begin shooting in the spring. Also this spring I have the role of the Mom in Niko Paleologus' film, "With a Little Help." I began work as executive producer of "The Storyteller" in August and will have a role in it as well. See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1117393/ for more on our IMDb page, including the A-List talent cast. ![]() ![]() Posted By Andrea

![]() ![]() ![]() Cast in Philadelphia Theatre Workshop's Season Opener
![]() Philadelphia Theatre Workshop opens its 2008/2009 season with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's The Mystery Plays. A thrilling, mysterious meditation on life's big questions, this show uses an ensemble cast with each of the six actors playing multiple roles. I am one of only two women, and have "the only comic relief" in the whole play, according to director Bill Felty! Snippets will be presented at the PTW fundraiser on Saturday, September 20th, and the run is from November 14-30. I worked with Bill in 2005 on Swimming In The Shallows, which was a wonderful experience, so I am really looking forward to working with him again.

![]() ![]() ![]() Back in touch
![]() Well, it's been a while, but I'm back in touch now. Rueing the end of summer, missing the shore. Despite getting my relaxing time in on the beach, it's been a good and productive while since I've written, however. Several commercials, a few print ads, and look for my spread in More magazine this winter. Getting geared up for a new skating season as well. Looking forward to the season ahead!

![]() ![]() ![]() The Day After
![]() It is Thursday, August 7, 2008, the day after finishing my most grueling taping. I was fortunate enough to be selected as the only "live" actor in DDA's promotional video. We spent some eight hours taping 15 different scripts. I played I.S., the Intelligent Spokesperson, although that may be questionable, and interacted with an animated seal which will be seen only when the editing process is completed. I was directed superbly by the production team of Lawrence and Jake, responded to the seal's dialogue, read by Debbie, and kept an eye on Indie the watchdog, who was most interested in watching a piece of banana bread that I was using as a prop in one of the segments. It was all worth it though as at the end of the day I experienced a feeling of being overheated and sweaty after all those hours under the lights...no, it was a great feeling of accomplishment in completing all those scripts in one day. It couldn't have happened without the professionalism of the entire DDA staff. Thanks to everyone who made my job so much easier, and thank you David and Elizabeth for having the confidence in me to achieve a first...performing with an animated seal. I eagerly anticipate seeing the completed project.

![]() ![]() ![]() My Year So Far
![]() Wow, this year I got to shoot a principal role for an Elections on Demand commercial about the 2008 primaries, for Comcast. It was really funny. I also had fun doing some background work on an Oreos commercial with Eli and Peyton Manning, and Venus and Serena Williams. That was cool. I'm also auditioning more for student films, just for the practice. I also shot a law-firm commercial that folks keep telling me they see on television all the time. Anyway, I'm certainly looking forward to doing more work with DDA. You guys are great!

![]() ![]() ![]() WOW, THAT TOO LONG
![]() Well hello all, I'm back in effect. I took the winter off during the writer's strike and now that the warm weather has sprung, I'm ready to take the pavement by storm. I immediately put myself in the market of NYC. I was casted in a new "Webisode". We are in the middle of filming the first 6 pilots/series. I have a principle role as one of the 3 sisters in this series and let me tell you, it's HOTT!!! I am so excited to be working on this project. It is going to be great exposure for me since the large networks are now using the internet as part of their search engine for finding new talent. I also just completed my first commercial that's running in upstate NY, Chicago and Atlanta, playing a faculty member. The commercial is to make our teenagers and adults become more aware of the safetiness in having protective sex. A very good message and the production company is working diligently to get it advertised nationwide.

![]() ![]() ![]() Back Home
![]() After a glorious second honeymoon in California lasting four and a half months, I am back in Philadelphia. My timing heading out to LA in December couldn't have been worse. I got there in the middle of the writers strike so there was literally no work to be had for actors. I did manage to sign with a commercial agent DDO (Dorothy Day Otis), but didn't get my first audition until the week before we were to return to Philly. It was for an ESPN spot. When I got a callback, we had to change our flight. Although I didn't book the job, it might have been for the best. I was to have played the 1934 World Farting champion. Yeah, you read it right. It would have been fun, but I sure wouldn't have wanted to be typecast. I will now return to working the New York to Washington corridor by renewing associations with former New York agents, and Philadelphia Casting Directors. It's good to be home.

![]() The trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's latest endeavor, The Happening, starring Mark Wahlberg, Zoe Deschenel, and John Leguizamo, has finally been released. Here's the official URL for the film: http://www.thehappeningmovie.com. Click "Watch the trailer" to view it. I played one of seven train conductors who, about 1:15 minutes into the trailer, give Mark Wahlberg the bad news that the world is going to hell in a hand-basket. That's me in the back, giving Mark my best "Who the f**k are you?" stare. The film is scheduled for release on Friday the 13th of June, 2008. I'm psyched; can't wait to see it! Check it out!

![]() ![]() "The International" starring Clive Owen & Naomi Watts
![]() In mid-January I worked as a museum patron in the feature film The International, starring Clive Owen and Naomi Watts. We shot a full day in the Guggenheim Museum across from Central Park in New York City. Those 7AM call times are rough when you have to commute from South Jersey into NYC but, in typical style, I was early and raring to go. Throughout the day, the Assistant Director (who was German) repeatedly shouted at cast and crew in thick German accent, "Shud Up!" through a PA system. It was the funniest thing, as he sounded just like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop yelling at the five year olds in his thick German accent: "SHUD UP!" I actually expected the AD's head to explode at any minute but, alas, we wrapped before that happened. Probably happened when he got home that night! (I'd have paid money to see it!) Naomi was not on set that particular day, but I did crash right into Clive Owen in between takes. I love working in films.

![]() ![]() ![]() Networking, Events, and Estates
![]() Hi Everyone, last Monday the 10th I went to a Spark Meeting at The Prince Music Theatre. It went really well, I had the opportunity to meet with a lot of the small theatre companies in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas and was able to give them my headshot and resume. It felt great networking and really getting to meet and greet with everyone. Not only was the event good for networking but also, meeting some more people that are in the same field. Monday, March 17th I went up to West Chester to film a spokesmodel spot for Presidental Estates with Apartment Guide, that went really well. Yesterday I did an event for Teen Vogue down in Center City at The Art Institute of Philadelphia, and UARTS. The event was three hours long and was well spent. Thats about it for today!

![]() ![]() ![]() almost spring!!!
![]() My experience at Walnut Street Theatre was wonderful and valuable. Although I did not have the opportunity to perform as the understudy, It was especially satisfying to watch as the cast and director rehearsed. To see the progress and changes of the show, both in rehearsals and while running, were fascinating and a great learning experience. When do I ever just SIT for hours and simply " WATCH"? (Take my word, never!!!) There's a lot to be said for observance with silence!!!
Now that the show has closed, it's on to other endeavors. More auditions, looking forward to working in the professional theatres locally. Classes, classes, and more classes...one can never know too much!!! Enjoying working in the recording studio now, as my group is recording our 7th CD! ![]() ![]() Posted By FAITHY
![]() ![]() ![]() Opening Night
![]() "The Desperate Hours" opened last Friday, February 29th at 8:00pm, and was a huge success. We had quite a few people come out to see it, and the actors were really on there game. Overall the show went rather smoothly. We thought that an entire week off from running the show would really set us into low energy mode, but not at all. Our energy was up tonight and we once again thrust into another week of the show. Next weekend we will be closing. In other news in about a week I will be doing a script for Apartment Guide. I will also, be working an event for Teen Vogue. As well as gearing up to put The Casting Call into production, by holding a few more auditions before we start.

![]() ![]() ![]() Returning to QVC after two month hiatus
![]() January and February were incredibly slow months for my QVC appearances, but I finally booked again for two Dell Computer airings on Saturday, Feb 23 '08 at 4AM and 7AM. These shows are now "in the can" and it was great to get back in the live-TV saddle again. Many people don't realize QVC is neither scripted nor pre-recorded, so if I'm on-air at 4:00AM I really am there in the studio doing computer improv at 4AM. Can be a real challenge to be awake and alert at that time of day. Here's a shoutout to my buddy, QVC host Dave King, who makes it fun and easy. Hope you caught one of the shows.

![]() ![]() CAST IN LEMONADE
![]() (February 2008) I was cast as the "romantic" male lead in a film called Lemonade.
My role is that of a man who sees a former girl friend 15 or twenty years after he had last seen her. The man I portray is very complex. He is intellectual, sensitive, reserved, and vulnerable. The woman can still push his buttons despite a major change in her appearance and health. There are only four people in the cast. Lemonade will be filmed in March in Atlantic City. ![]() ![]() Posted By PhilipJ
![]() ![]() ![]() Booked on Fox Sports Network's "Amazing Sports Stories"
![]() After auditioning in December '07 in NYC, I was hired to play a National Football League executive in an episode of the Fox Sports Network's TV series called "Amazing Sports Stories". The episode details the true story of how the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers combined into one team in 1943 in an effort to keep their teams and the NFL afloat during WWII, as both teams lost many players to the war effort. The combo team was affectionately called the "Steagles". My scenes were shot in Brooklyn on February 6th, 2008, and the episode will air in Spring '08 on the Fox Sports Network. It's always exciting when I get a booking for a national television show or film.

![]() ![]() ![]() Belles of Dublin returns to Society Hill Playhouse
![]() I'm counting down to March 14th, when the show I created, Belles of Dublin, An Evening of Irish Theatre and Music, returns to The Red Room at Society Hill Playhouse. This will be the 3rd year now, so I guess it's turning into a Philly institution! I portray a contemporary Irish woman in four monologues I adapted from the works of Irish novelist Edna O'Brien. The stories of coming of age, a disastrous adulterous afternoon tryst, an unforgettable tale of revenge, and its aftermath, are surrounded by Irish music: beautiful ballads sung by soprano Kim Robson, accompanied by Evangeline Williams on the celtic harp.
I have been interviewed for Irishphiladelphia.com, and will be talking about the show on WTMR's Irish show, Come West Along the Road, on Sunday May 2nd. Belles will ring March 14-17 (tix/info at www.societyhillplayhouse.org) and I hope you will come check me out in this unique and delightful St. Patrick's Day weekend celebration. ![]() ![]() Posted By polly

The film is to premiere in theaters in October '08, and you can see more on it in the IMDb, including the impressive trailer.
Meanwhile, I've begun discussing a supporting role in and being a producer of another wonderfully written feature. More on that later! ![]() ![]() Posted By Andrea
![]() ![]() ![]() MONOLOGUE TRAINING
![]() (January 2008) I joined a monologue and audition training group in January. We will meet every few weeks and work with each other to improve our skills at auditions.
At the first session, two of the participants brought scripts for us to use. We got into pairs and performed cold reads on two person scripts. We tried different attitudes and characterizations, and changed scene partners. I brought some Improv games for the group to play between cold reads. It was fun. The best part though was giving and getting constructive feedback. We will be meeting again February 4th. ![]() ![]() Posted By PhilipJ

![]() (January 2008) I recently took a class with Charlie Roney of Mike Lemon Casting. The course was Telemprompter and Ear Prompter Training.
I have had voice over training with Charlie Roney in the past, so I knew it would be a very good course. I was not disappointed. Charlie gave the class plenty of good pointers. We each had a chance to practice during the class and see ourselves on a video. I took 8 pages worth of single spaced notes during the 3 hour session. Not only that, I know how to practice at home. I'll be able to improve even now that the class is over. ![]() ![]() Posted By PhilipJ

"Death So Delicious" is an interactive murder mystery dinner theater show. I performed it for the first time in the Bethlehem, PA area at a party of about 100 corporate managers and supervisors. I loved the interaction I had with the guests. While staying in character, I answered all kinds of questions between acts. The guests tried to outwit me into telling them who the murderer is. It was hilarious. The loud applause at the end of the show was extremely gratifying. ![]() ![]() Posted By PhilipJ
![]() ![]() ![]() The Desperate Hours
![]() Hi Guys,
Just here to update you on what iv'e been up to lately now that the new year has started and is in full swing. This past Monday I attended Kathy Wickline's Open Call again just to touch base and see how things were going. It's always good to get into the casting agents as much as possible just to touch base. I was just recently cast in a play called "The Desperate Hours" in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, as Cindy Hilliard. This is our second week in rehearsals and so far it is coming along really well. The show will be going up between February 29 through March 16, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So right now I am just creating a character for her and preparing for the show.Thursday just past I participated in a student short film called a "Sea of Something More" as a featured extra. Which was fun because I was able to network with some new people that I had met there, that were also background. So i will be updating you on more later! ![]() ![]() Posted By KaylahF
![]() ![]() ![]() Always a bridesmaid, never a bride?
![]() Well, not really, but 2 auditions, and 2 first refusals! So close, and yet so far! But, better than nothing, I guess. Although, sometimes I do think it's better to hear nothing than deal with the frustration of knowing you were that close to booking. One of the refusals did turn into background, something at least. My biggest synchronized team skating competition is coming up this week, I had to turn down several auditions with shoot dates when I'm going to be away. Is it worth it? Absolutely. I might be giving up a possibility of a booking, but I am pursuing my dream. Who would have ever thought that at 50+ I could be a competitive ice-skater? As they say, better late than never! Ciao....

![]() ![]() ![]() Once Upon A Nation
![]() Hi. Well today I had my Once Upon a Nation audition. I won't hear the results back until about two weeks from now. I felt good about so I can't wait to hear back from them. It was really exciting as well, I went in there and told my story about how I was an elf in a improvisation show two years back, and I condensed the show into a story format. Then I was given a cold read to do, and a puppetry act to do as well. So now that the audition is over I know that I have to take it and forget about until I hear back. So that's it for now.

![]() (January 2008) I will be filmed in late January and early February in a short film called "A Sea of Something More". I portray the father of the female lead in this film. I am in three scenes. One scene is outdoors so I am hoping for unseasonably warm weather.
I am also portraying Tex, a wealthy businessman and accomplished chef in a Murder Mystery Players production of "Death So Delicious". ![]() ![]() ![]() PRESIDING AT MY OWN FUNERAL
![]() (January 2008) I was filmed on a cold January morning as a priest presiding over a funeral. The film is called Compass. I had a 7 AM call to be at a cemetery. This meant having to wake up at 5:30 AM. If you know me, that is very early for me. I am usually awake until at least 1 AM, before retiring for the night.
Thank heavens I wore lots of thermals. It was freezing. Because of the thermals, I was more comfortable than the others in attendance. Well I was more comfortable until the late morning, when a breeze started across the mostly barren hill. Then shivering became the order of the day. The director took shots from several different angles. The sound guy had to do the best he could, what with passing sirens and other noises. Interestingly enough, the funeral was for a character I had played just the day before (I have two roles in this film). I was the priest at my own funeral! ![]() ![]() Posted By PhilipJ
![]() ![]() REFLECTIONS ON BEING SANTA
![]() (January 2008) I had a rewarding and, for me, a memorable experience being Santa Claus at Macys in center city Philadelphia. The costume itself is amazing. The beard, the hair, the body suit to fatten me up, the boots, the eyebrows and the coat.
Despite my looking rather formidable, some children immediately ran up to me and hugged me. Others needed to be coaxed to sit next to me. I was lucky with most children to find a way to make each comfortable. As was the case with all of the other Santas, a few children screamed and never got close to Santa. Most of the children happily sat next to me for two photographs. Some of the visits by the children stand out. On my first day as Santa, a four year old girl reluctantly warmed up to me enough to sit next to me for a picture. She left with her parents, walking quietly away. About two minutes later though, she broke away from her parents, ran back into my Santa house, ran up to me and gave me the biggest hug she could give. I had won her over. A group of 13 inner city five and six year olds with four escorts visited. Each child took turns hugging Santa, and some gave me a high five. Many had questions: How do you get down the chimney? We don't have a chimney. How will you get into our house? What is my brother's name? I apparently had the correct answers for all of their questions. It took several minutes to get all of the 13 in the picture frame. When they were ready to leave, each child gave me another hug and most also stayed for a high five. Instead of the usual 30 seconds with Santa, they were with me for 5 wonderful minutes. There was the boy who took one look at me and started screaming. I asked him to give me a high five, hoping that would settle him down. He stopped screaming for a moment, gave me the high five, and then went back to screaming as he backpedaled. I got him to high five me two more times and each time, he stopped screaming for a moment, and then went back to screaming after the high five. There was the five year old boy who did not speak, always leaning against his mother. Each time I asked a question, he would look at me for a moment, and then raise his eyes to his mother for her to answer me. I realized that he would never answer me directly. I started making positive affirmations to him instead of asking questions. --- I know you have been a good boy this year. --- You will be getting great presents Christmas morning. --- Your mom loves you. Once I started making affirmations, he never looked at his mother again. We had bonded. A small smile creased his face. There are plenty of other stories. I estimate that at least 1,000 children, and possibly 1,500 had pictures taken with me. I will be in their photo albums for years, possibly passed down from generation to generation. ![]() ![]() Posted By PhilipJ

![]() ![]() ![]() Dickens Comes to An End
![]() Well my last day as a Dickens Villager was over this past Sunday the 30th. It was time to say goodbyes to whoever was there of the cast and as well as the managers. It was a fun season and it was just nice being in that type of long run show environment again. I met a lot of great people throughout the run of it that I can't wait to work with again. Mostly everyone was doing some sort of acting of some sorts so I will most likely see them in the future. Well now that The Dickens is over it is time to get busy with "The Casting Call". The pilot that my friend Ashley and I will be producing and filming in January. We are currently in pre-production for the show and are just gearing up for our read through this Wednesday. It's going to be nice seeing all of the actors finally getting to meet everyone and seeing who they will be working with. I can't wait to get started. Well everyone have a very happy new year, and I will be writing in 2008!

![]() (December 2007) I had a great, and busy, span of five days in December, followed by three days as Santa Claus.
The 12th of December, I played two roles in a play called A Christmas Minute for Act One Productions in Reading, PA. I played a pastor who was always giving out chores for people to do to put on a Christmas play. I also played Joseph in a flashback scene of the Nativity. I had played the same roles two years ago. Because of a scheduling conflict, I was not able to make the one rehearsal that was held before the performance date. So I performed without any rehearsal. But everything went smoothly, and the audience loved it. The next day, December 13th, I performed in a murder mystery with The GiggleMill Improv Comedy Troupe for a nationally known publishing company. The audience members had flown in for a Christmas party from all over the United States. The GiggleMill was the entertainment for the party. The third day, December 14th, The GiggleMill performed its murder mystery for an accounting and auditing firm located in Delaware. Because the murder mystery is fully improvised, the plot and cast of characters were entirely different from the show performed for the publishing company. The plot line comes from suggestions made throughout the performance by the audience. The GiggleMill cast takes the suggestions and molds them into a plot, which leads to the uncovering of the murderer. The murderer turned out to be one of the audience members. On December 15th, I spent the morning and afternoon telling stories for Once Upon a Nation at Valley Forge National Historical Park. I told stories to visitors about George Washington, King George III, Martha Washington and others involved in the American Revolution. In one of the stories I actually portray Martha Washington for 30 seconds, which always makes people laugh. That night, I performed in Murder I Do with the Murder Mystery Players at a beautiful facility in Delaware. The audience consisted of the employees of a law firm at their Christmas party. The off-script lawyer jokes were a bit rampant, at times. The fifth day, December 16th, I performed once again in Murder I Do at Dave and Busters in Philadelphia (Columbus Boulevard) at a show for a software firm. In Murder I Do, I portray a drunken reverend that has been called at the last minute to officiate at a wedding. I double as the detective who has to solve a murder that occurs in the first act. On the sixth, seventh and eight days, I was Santa Claus at Macys in downtown Philadelphia all day, each day. What a joy to become a part of childrens lives in such a positive way! I wish I could stay busy like this every day of the year. ![]() ![]() Posted By PhilipJ

![]() I am spending the winter in sunny California, taking classes and developing agent contacts to pursue film, television and commercials on both coasts. When I return to Philadelphia in early April, I look forward to fulfilling your needs for whatever roles you may have available. I will update this blog as the weeks go by, sharing with you my progress on the left coast.

![]() ![]() Under contract acting until April.
![]() Wow. When it rains, it pours. The picture is now clearer. January and February, I'm playing a character named George in Adventures in the Skin Trade at Walking Fish Theatre. In late March and early April, I shoot Burying Joe with Slanted Porch Productions. And, as of tonight, I play another character named George in the Vagabond Acting Troupe's April production of Rag and Bone by Noah Haidle. They also extended an invitation to make me a 2008 Core Ensemble member with their group, which is cool, I think. I have no idea what that entails, but the Core members have their own bio page on the company webpage, which is always fun.
It's all ironic, because that's two characters named "George" in a row (and one Matt). And because, right before I left Richmond, I narrowly missed a chance to be in Haidle's play Mr. Marmalade with Richmond's Firehouse Theatre. It had really been bumming me out that I wasn't in that play, so here's a chance at redemption. Also, on a non-theatre note, I got engaged last week to my two-year girlfriend, Amber. 2007 is ending on an up note. Send me a $5 check and a self-addressed stamped envelope, and I'll send you an autograph. :) I'm off to bed. G'night, all. Ryan ![]() ![]() Posted By ryanc

![]() What a couple of weeks! I have been to several auditions for print, commercial and film. I went to a costume fitting for the film Lovely Bones. I was put into threee of the ugliest 70's dresses I am afraid to admit that I think I might have had something very similiar hanging in my closet at one time. I also went to a grat doc movie call the The Killer Within. The director was at the theater to discuss the film. There is a great arts theater in Ambler if anyone is interested. I haven'e heard anything through DDA but keep my fingers crossed. I am thinking about refilming my piece. The day I shot my piece it must have been 100++ and I look melted. I thought I might want to ask them to reshoot it. Have any of you reshot your pieces. I would love to hear if any of you are also getting bookings through this site. Love to hear what your experiences have been.

![]() ![]() ![]() Icing on the Cape
![]() Wow, great weekend. While preparing last week to head to a skating competition in Cape Cod taking place this weekend, I get a call for an audition. So, I had to change plans and drive all night instead of all day. C'est la vie. Better than not getting the call at all. Then I find out when I was up there that I booked 2 jobs. The real icing on the Cape (not my own clever play on words, I must admit, but the name of a juvenile team at the competition), was my team taking first place in our division at the competition. A true weekend of Hanukah miracles!
